FER - Transfer of thawed, fertilised embryos

FER = Frozen Embryo Replacement

A tiny plastic tube containing the fertilised egg(s) is inserted into the uterus.

Before this procedure, you will have had treatment with either oestradiol tablets (stimulated FER) or had an ovulation injection during a spontaneous cycle (unstimulated FER). Either type of treatment is given to prepare the endometrium to receive the fertilised egg(s).

The decision on whether to transfer one or two eggs is discussed with you but will dependent on factors such as the quality of the eggs, the development stage of the eggs when they were frozen, your age, the number of previous attempts and the reason for your infertility.
