Assisted hatching

With assisted hatching, the surface of the fertilised egg is treated so that the egg might implant more easily in the endometrium when it is replaced and so establish a pregnancy.

This method can be used for:

  • Multiple previous attempts where pregnancy has not been achieved with IVF/ICSI despite good quality of the fertilised eggs
  • Women in whom the egg membrane (zona pellucida) appears to be thickened.

There are various AHA methods.

At StorkKlinik, we use a mechanical method in which we make a tiny hole in the egg membrane in the hope of making it easier for the egg to hatch and implant in the endometrium.

There is currently no conclusive scientific data available to show that the likelihood of a live pregnancy is greater with this method.
