With hormone stimulation we can optimise the timing of ovulation and insemination by tracking the development of the follicle with an ultrasound and by giving an ovulation-induction injection.
When we can see a follicle of a certain size on an ultrasound scan, we can estimate when the ovulation injection should be given in relation to when insemination is to take place. If your own doctor/gynaecologist is dealing with your hormone stimulation, this person has to decide whether, and when, the ovulation injection should be given. Generally you will be inseminated 36-40 hours after you have had the ovulation injection.
