Starting a hormone-stimulated cycle

Before beginning the insemination process together with hormone stimulation, we need to know your hormonal status, among other things. Therefore, you need to have different tests done before starting treatment

Investigations in connection with hormone stimulation
Your own doctor will be able to do a lot of the tests, and this may help to expedite your treatment if we have the results when you come to us for the first consultation regarding hormone stimulation.

If you have already had treatment at StorkKlinik, some of the tests may have been done previously and may still be valid. Please contact us for further information about this. Before StorkKlinik can give hormonal treatment, we must have the results of the following tests:

Investigations of the man

Semen sample: Can be done at StorkKlinik and should be done early on in relation to planning the type of treatment

It is a precondition that documentation of the above investigations are sent to us. PLEASE NOTE: In line with Danish legislation, the Danish Health Authority requires that the blood tests for HIV-1 and HIV-2 and hepatitis B and C be analysed at a laboratory that is approved as an EU tissue centre. If not, we will be obliged to repeat these blood tests.

All of the above blood tests, swabs and investigations can be done at StorkKlinik.

Based on your test results, we can arrange the most suitable hormone stimulation for you. When you have received your test results, you can phone us and book a consultation here in the clinic.

During the consultation we will review your test results and do an ultrasound of your uterus (also know as the womb) and ovaries. If the test results and scan are favourable, you can start hormone stimulation from Day 2-3 of your cycle. You will be given clear advice and instructions about when and how the actual treatment will be given. You will also be given contact information for StorkKlinik's hormone stimulation team, so you can ask questions if necessary during your treatment. The prescription for the hormone preparations that you must use will be prescribed by one of the doctors at StorkKlinik and will be supplied on the day you come to the clinic. There is a pharmacy close to StorkKlinik, where you can normally buy the hormones you need.

After 8-10 days of hormone treatment, you will be rescanned. This scan can be done at the clinic, or you can get your own gynaecologist to do it. If your own gynaecologist does your scan, it is important that we get the result of the scan on the same day it is done, so that we can decide how to proceed. After this scan we can often plan when you should have your ovulation injection and when you should be inseminated. It could also be the case that you must continue further hormone stimulation for a few days before insemination can be planned following a third scan.

Some women may experience side effects in connection with hormone stimulation, but the side effects generally tend to be mild.
