Stork Clinic - Fertility Clinic - Insemination IUI Copenhagen, Denmark

About the clinic

Nina Stork's personal story

woman being a stand, making a difference

I opened StorkKlinik in 1999, because I was filled with wonder at the fact that Denmark had passed a law on artificial insemination in 1997, which suddenly prohibited doctors from treating single and lesbian women.

My partner Inger and I were trying to become pregnant when the legislation suddenly paralysed us and lesbians and single women in all of Scandinavia. Due to the legislation we had to terminate our inseminations- and IVF attempts at a private clinic from one day to the next.
We were sad and angry all at once.

Two years later I had the strength to do something about it when Inger managed to become pregnant with the help of a good acquaintance who wanted to be a donor.I, therefore, had personal reasons for opening StorkKlinik.

A decent alternative
My wish was to make it possible for all women, single as well as lesbian, with or without a man to become pregnant under decent and healthy responsible conditions at the same level as the country’s medical clinics and fertility treatment.

A totally different and intimate experience of the conception
Through my own countless inseminations- and IVF attempts, I have made some painful experiences. It hit me how sensitive and vulnerable I was in the hope of succeeding in having a baby. I had many thoughts of how it could be made more humane, dignified and respectful to create a child through insemination.

Creation of new life is, as I see it, a sacred moment that should be made special.
